Statement 1: C
It is true that Odenís contract expires at the end of the season and that he will be a free agent.† Will he be an unrestricted free agent as it says in the statement?† We donít know.† First of all, there is the issue of the new CBA Ė will restricted free agency still be in play?† If I had to guess, I would say yes, but because itís only a guess, I cannot say for sure.† The second issue is that of a qualifying offer.† Even if restricted free agency is part of the new CBA, there is no guarantee that Portland will actually give him a qualifying offer to make him a restricted free agent.
Chances are very likely (Iíd say something like 90%) that this statement turns out to be false.† But it is not a certainty, thus I must categorize it as ďCĒ
Statement 2: A
This is definitely true, from what we know today.† Joel will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
Statement 3: C
It is true that Cunninghamís contract expires at the end of the season and that he will be a free agent.† But, as with Greg Oden, the same two issues are not determined which make it impossible to definitively categorize the statement as either true or false.† Those two issues are: will there be restricted free agency in the next CBA and will the Blazers give him a qualifying offer.
Chances are even more likely than with Oden, IMO, that this statement turns out to be false (Iíd put the chances at about 98%), but it is not definitive at the present time.
Statement 4: B
This is my favorite.† First of all, Andre Miller does not have an expiring contract, despite what you may hear on the radio or read on the internet/in the newspaper.† He is under contract for the 2011-12 season (barring a lockout), although it is true that the amount is fully unguaranteed if he is waived before 6/30/11.† But he is under contract.
Secondly, and most importantly, the second half of the statement is completely false.† If Portland wants to retain Miller, they have the ability to do so.† Andre cannot opt out in any way.† So if the Trailblazers want him to be on the roster, he will be on the roster.
Statement 5: C
Patty Millsí one year contract does expire at the end of the season.† But his situation is the same as Cunningham Ė so long as there is restricted free agency under terms of the next CBA and so long as he is given a qualifying offer, he will become a restricted free agent.† But since neither of these are guaranteed to happen, we cannot say with 100% certainty that the statement is either true or false.
Iíd put the chances of the statement being false at about 60%, but thatís far from definitive.
